I haven't bought food from that part of Costco (it just doesn't occur to me and we have good pizza nearby), but weirdly I've been finding myself carrying and using more cash, which I haven't done a lot of since before Covid. I think it's because more and more places are adding the 3% charge for credit card purchases (I think there's a new law allowing businesses to pass this fee on to customers, whereas before they had to swallow it). I can avoid that extra 3% if I pay cash.
Not a Costco shopper, but they boast the lowest theft rate of all retail outlets. Soon "memberships" or ID's will required for entrance to all stores and malls.
We have Costco in Australia and it’s the only major store that feels slow and antiquated in every part of the purchasing process compared to efficiency of other major grocery/retail stores here.
fascinating…In the U.S. Costco is known for having the fastest checkouts anywhere hands down…There seems to be a management problem on your continent… :)
I’ve seen the payment systems in many non-Costco stores in the US. Inefficient. Almost delaying taking my money by asking me a bunch of questions instead of our card one step card tap systems- no questions asked
I thought the law required Costco to let medicines, liquor and restaurant food (those hotdogs) be available for purchase to anyone, no membership required. I don’t buy liquor at Costco but the pharmacy and the restaurant don’t scan my membership card when I pay.

It’s already happening. Gone are the clickers carried by the counting greeters at the front. Now they have scanners to validate and check you in.

We have friends at the supermarket register here…so we need to catch up…

Made me laugh, thank you. 🤣

Costco is rolling out ID scanning at the entrance with two people one watch. It may have not yet reached every store…
My point was meds, liquor and restaurants get treated differently under the law. If you’re coming to buy from pharmacy they can’t keep you out.
